Introducing the Accountability Flickr pool
AndreAnna had a great post today about the positive impact of being held accountable when it comes to weight loss or fitness progress. I know for me the accountability of having an ongoing trainer appointment has made an enormous difference in my physical fitness, and my ability to stay motivated throughout the week. Here’s the truth: I don’t think I could do this alone. I need to talk to people, I need to vent, I need advice, I sometimes need people to kick my ass.
Plus, I’m a blogger. Obsessive self-documentation is kind of my thing.
After talking it over with AndreAnna, we decided to create a Flickr pool for anyone who wants to participate. The idea here is to post photos—however many you want, but let’s shoot for one per week—that help give you a sense of accountability in your health and fitness efforts. What that means is up to you. Here’s what I wrote on the Group description:
The Accountability Flickr pool is for anyone who wants to participate in a shared project of documenting your health and fitness progress. The idea is to post at least one new photo during each week that captures, in part, insight into your weekly health/fitness efforts (whether it be success, setback, or staying the course), and a text description of how you’ve been doing. Photo concepts include, but are not limited to:
• The current number on your scale
• A meal you enjoyed (or regretted!)
• Body image, however you wish to portray it
• You, mid-exercise
• Anything you can think of that represents your health focus for the week
Whether your goals are to drink more water, get more sleep, exercise more often, lose weight, or anything else—this is a place where we can share our stories and be accountable to one another.
Note: this is the first time I’ve set up a Flickr group so if anything seems borked, just let me know. If you’ve never posted to a group before, instructions are here.
Thanks to AndreAnna for the awesome idea. I hope to see you there!
