Introducing Blood, Sweat & Sneakers

By Kaitlyn

A month ago, I decided to train for a full marathon.

You may be wondering about my qualifications. I mean, what makes me believe I can actually run for 42.2km (which is going to take me about 5 hours)? Just typing that makes me a little nervous, because quite frankly, I don’t have any qualifications. I love to run, I really do. Other than sheer willpower and possibly a touch of crazy… I got nothin’.

When I was trying to think of a name for this blog, my husband asked what it was about. The girls? he asked. About running and being a mom and taking care of a family? But that’s not it. Actually, that’s the opposite of it. I give my all to those two girls (3 and 1). I’m at home with them until I head back to school part time in the fall. I do laundry and keep the house clean and take them fun places on sunny afternoons and I love them with all of my heart. But this? This is about me. My strengths, my weaknesses, my demons, my sneakers.

And maybe that’s the real reason I’m doing it after all.

A marathon is a hefty but achievable goal, given the right training — at least, that’s what I hear (I’m still at the 10k stage). I look forward to reading along. Best of luck!

Good for you! I’m training for a half-marathon this November, and I’d like to run a full marathon in March 2010. I wouldn’t say I love running. I don’t think I even like it. But I love the feeling after I finish my run. I’ve read the Non-Runner’s Marathon Training Guide, and I plan to read it again once I begin my marathon training in earnest because it takes you through it week by week.

Have you picked a marathon yet?

    Good luck!

    Welcome!

I also have a three- and one-year-old! I’ll be looking forward to reading your updates.

I often wonder what motivated people to want to run marathons. I currently mostly run 5Ks and 10Ks and I yearly do a 15K. I have yet to venture to the half or full marathon distance yet. I run regularly though and someday I’m sure I’ll do a half marathon. Best of luck in your training. I look forward to reading.
