Some Stuff that I’ve Rejoiced In

By Sarah Lena
So, I think we too often focus on the negative when it comes to our body image and weight-loss. I mean, I stand in front of a full length mirror DAILY and hold my saddlebags and bemoan my sharpei belly. EVERY DAY. I never rejoice in my shrinking thighs, or my now-toned upper arms, or even that I now have just one solitary chin. Why don’t I do that? Why don’t we ALL do that?
Tired of it, am I. So here’s some stuff that I’m going to now be excited about.
I got my hair did. It’s now bright vivid red. (I’m kinda hoping it becomes LESS bright red, but I’ll take it where it comes.)
Although it was an expense that my hubby is not fond of, I have found that just that hour-and-a-half in the chair makes me feel like such a brand new woman.
Um, also, if you don’t read my other blog, I adore this lotion:
And although I started with just the light-to-medium tone, I’ve since moved into the medium-to-dark (although for two weeks, I mixed the two together). Seriously, love this stuff. Doesn’t stink (as badly), quick to absorb, and the firming? OH, THE FIRMING.
Okay, I’ll admit I have not tried this. BUT, I love Philosophy AND I’ve used their non-perfumed body scrub religiously, so I imagine that it combined with my favorite fragrance ever? Just heavenly. I cannot recommend their scrubs highly enough.. very gentle, you can use them on the face and/or body, and all natural. Huge fan.
By now, you’ve seen the brilliant idea that AndreAnna had about keeping ourselves accountable through a pool at Flickr. This was my first contribution, and while my natural reaction was God, 155, REALLY?! And Sarah, could you put some polish on your nasty-ass feet? And clean your floors, woman! I had to take a moment and realize that, um, HEY, a year ago next month, I weighed almost 190 lbs. So, sure, some ways to go, but HEY, look at how far I’ve come, baby!
Also, DO NOT REJOICE IN THIS AT HOME, but.. um.. well, I’ve now lost enough weight that the passenger-side airbag does not recognize that I’m seated in the car and so the airbag never turns on. Yes, safety hazard, gonna die, BLAHBLAHBLAH, but LOOK! Suzuki thinks I’m skinny!!
I was fortunate enough to be gifted a Nathan’s Quickdraw Hydration Bottle from my running partner when it’s not 900 degrees, Zoot. She had an extra one and so we both ran with one early one Saturday morning, and boy, when you’re going a long distance, this really makes a difference. And I love the handy little pocket for keys (or rings, if you’re like me and your hand swells to HULK PROPORTIONS when you run), and for whatever reason, I swear I feel cooler (temp wise, not, like, acceptability meter) when I run with a bottle of cool water in my palm.
Alright, so I’ve chatted your ear off. What have you been loving recently? And are you in the Flickr pool?

I still need to get that lotion but I’m scared! Can I not use my exfoliating soap? Will that cause uneven color distribution? THE QUESTIONS I HAVE!

Great reminder to appreciate the little things!
I appreciate being able to finally run 30 minutes in a row on the treadmill. I will get there running on the trail, too!
I also want to know about the lotion–do you have to do the crazy exfoliating thing before using this? I have always avoided self tanner because of not wanting to go through that whole hassle. Please advise.

Dude. You’re hot in the red. Change that avatar pic. Seriously. You look nothing like that (it’s cute don’t get me wrong but you look young and hot).
Going now before you think I’m flirting with you!

On the exfoliating note:
I do exfoliate.. every time I get in the shower. Is that excessive? Perhaps, but I use the Philosophy MicroExfoliating Wash, and it’s SO incredibly gentle that it doesn’t bother me at all. I exfoliate while the shampoo is on my hair, then use body wash while the conditioner is on my hair. I’m a multi-tasker that way.
As for the lotion, start with the fair-to-medium tone and just give it a go. It really is subtle enough that you don’t get all streaky after one application. (Believe me, I’ve used the Just-Add-for-Oompa-Loompa-Orange lotion before.)
