Signed up

By Jennifer

I’m on week three of the Couch to 5K program (officially in my fifth week, though). I’ve extended a few of the early weeks to ease me into training and that’s why I planned the nine-week training for an 11-12 week time frame. I run at the gym, and it never takes all that much time. I enjoy it, even, which stuns no one more than me. Last night I barely broke a sweat, and that was wonderfully/strangely new.

Since I’m still at this training gig a full month past when I started, and I can’t remember the last time I did anything for a full month past when I started except maybe parenting (they don’t let you off the hook quite so easily with that job), I decided to sign up for my first 5K, to give me an official and motivational end date to this training.

March 28th. Austin, Texas.

(No refunds, of course, sneaky race organizers!)

If you’re in the area and want to join me, I’d love that. Strength in numbers and an excuse to indulge in brunch after the race and all that jazz.

As a blogger/writer, I use words a LOT. Just ask my husband, he’d be glad to nod emphatically at that question. It’s what I’m good at: expressing how I feel, making bold declarations and grand plans. Sometimes I can write a pretty good game, I know this, but I also hate this, so this was my year to stop talking so much and start seeing some things through.

It’s nice to feel good, yes, but it’s just as nice to have tangible goals accomplished.

My first 5K! That’s nothing to some, I know, but a whole lot to me.

Congratulations on signing up for your first 5k!
I’m a “Couch to 5k” graduate, I’m running my first official 5k race myself, on Super Bowl Sunday and I’m so excited for it.

    Heh, here’s another perspective.

    You’re at 5K and I’m at Zero K. :)

Congrats and BE PROUD of your hard work, discipline, commitment, and achievement. You pushed yourself out the door and did it. I started couch to 5K and gave up somehwere along the line for some reason I can’t recall…probably laziness. Yes, that’s it. I gave up. In the middle of summer when running conditions were pleasant.

(There’s a theme in many of these blogs of ladies selling their accomplishments short but this seems to be standard for women. We simply cannot congratulate ourselves without also apologizing for not having achieved more. Don’t do that, and I mean that with the utmost kindness.)

Yay! I used the C25K program last year and I ran 2 5K’s last summer. It is so much fun. I used to HATE running, and now I am thinking about trying a 10K this summer.

Exciting! Austin is a very fun city to run a race in. Good luck!

Good for you! Congratulations! It IS a big deal.

It always helps motivate me if I’ve got a date looming on the calendar. Good for you committing yourself!
