I don't usually exercise before work because I wake up at 5 already.. the trick to waking up early though is to hop out of bed the instance the alarm goes off. Do not allow yourself the snooze button. Just get out of bed immediately and don't even think about it! Good luck!

I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in this! Those are some great ideas. Courtney, I love your idea of writing down a list of reason to get up - every night I go over them in my head, but when morning rolls around... thfft.

And yeah, I really need to work towards going to bed earlier...

Morning exercising is what I keep expecting myself to do, but I too have only done it once. The snooze button and I know each other well.

If I could just get my feet on the floor... It really is a struggle. If you figure out a way to overcome the snooze button let us know!

I swear I've had that EXACT same thing happen to me. I dream that I'm running and then wake up to discover I've overslept.

When I'm tri training, I find it a lot easier, because I have two-a-days. And I know that if I don't get up and do my workout in the morning, I'm not going to be able to do it at night, because I already have a workout scheduled then. So I regularly get up at 4:30am and do my workouts.

However, currently I have a pure-running, mostly-just-for-fun goal, and I'm finding it very challenging (impossible) to get up in the morning for workouts. So I feel ya. Especially the part where I have no problem getting up early on the weekends. I think because I know I could maybe nap later in the day, instead of going to work for 8 hours.

I do find that (a) going to bed earlier, and (b) having alllllll my stuff laid out and ready to go the night before definitely help if I want to be SURE that I get up and run.

I struggle with this DAILY. And you're right. Most of the time, if you don't get it done in the morning, it won't get done at all. There will always be traffic, errands, chores, etc.

I keep my phone (alarm clock) across the room on a bookshelf. On that shelf, I taped a piece of paper, listing all the reasons--ALL the reasons--why I really want to be a morning workout person. I put my phone on that piece of paper every night, and every morning when I stumble across the room at 5:05, I'm confronted by My Reasons. 9 times out of 10, just looking at the paper is enough to get me going. Sometimes I have to read a reason or two, but the effect is the same.

And at the risk of writing you a novel, I'll tell you that NOTHING compares to the feeling of running alone in the early morning darkness, listening to something quick but low on your iPod, and knowing that just being out there means your self-esteem will be rockin' the rest of the day.
